As Cameroon joins the global community to celebrate the 41st edition of Women’s Day on March 8, under the theme, “Rights, Justice, Action. For All Women and Girls,” the conversation turns to the remarkable women who are shaping the nation’s future.
Dr. Epolewane Verklin epse Igwacho, a trailblazer in public service and champion of women’s empowerment, shares her inspiring story and vision for a more equitable society.

In an exclusive interview, Dr. Epolewane reveals how her family legacy and personal experiences inspired her to fight against gender-based violence and promote women’s empowerment. Through the Verklin Foundation, she has supported girls’ education, provided scholarships, and empowered young women financially, transforming lives and communities.

“Leadership does not mean abandoning our identity or roles,”Dr. Epolewane emphasizes. “Being a woman leader does not make you ‘the man of the house’. Lead boldly, but stay grounded in who you are.”
As Divisional Officer of Nlonako, Moungo Division, Littoral Region, Dr. Epolewane serves at the grassroots level, driving community development and supporting vulnerable populations. Her leadership is rooted in empathy, strength, and a commitment to empowering women and girls.

As an administrator, founder of Verklin Foundation, and champion of women’s empowerment, Dr. Epolewane inspires with her leadership and vision for a brighter future.
Her message to Cameroonian women is clear: “Recognize your worth, embrace your resilience, and boldly pursue the justice and opportunities you deserve, because no one will hand them to you.”

As the nation celebrates Women’s Day, Dr. Epolewane’s vision serves as a call to action. “It’s time to break the silence around gender-based violence, promote financial empowerment, and create a safer environment for women and girls.”

Dr. Epolewane recently backed a Ph.D. in Pulic Policy and Administration from Italy. She is an administrator, women empowerment coach, a mother, a wife, and a pillar to her society. She hails from Poala village, Bangem Sub Division.
