As we celebrate Women’s Day, we honor the inspiring story of a housewife, Ngwesse Juliana who defied odds to pursue her education.
Hailing from Ekambeng in Bangem subdivision, she embodies the spirit of determination and empowerment.
With a double Masters degree in education, she proves that schooling has no age and that education is key to unlocking one’s potential.
In an interview with The Ultimate, she revealed that growing up in a society where girls were often marginalized, the importance of equal opportunities for all children cannot be overemphasized.
“I was already a housewife and a mother of five, when i decided to continue in secondary school. I attended evening schools to obtain my Ordinary and Advanced Level Certificates. I later on got enrolled into ENS Bambili and Higher ENS Yaounde. Today, I have a double Masters degree. I assist my husband with my salary, take care of my children and family. This is an example worth emulating.” She revealed.
“What a man can do, a woman can do it better,” she says, highlighting the achievements of women from her community, particularly those from Bakossi land.
According to Ngwesse, her vision for education focuses on empowering displaced children, helping them avoid violence and become self-sufficient. She believes education enables women to manage their families effectively, reduce domestic violence, and contribute to their communities.
As an administrator, she advocates for vulnerable children’s education, citing the Minister of Secondary Education’s directive to admit displaced children without discrimination. Her message to women and girls is clear: empower yourselves through education and entrepreneurship to live a better life.
“Education has transformed my life,” she says. “It gave me confidence, courage, and a sense of purpose. I urge all women and girls to take charge of their lives, acquire skills, and contribute to their communities.”
