In a bid to cushion the effects of soaring prices, the Divisional Delegation of Commerce for Kupe Muanenguba, in partnership with SAO POINT Douala, organized a successful promotional sales activity in Tombel on March 7, 2026.

The event, which coincided with International Women’s Day celebrations, saw the sale of essential commodities like rice and tomatoes at discounted prices.

Over 330 bags of rice and 50 cartons of tomatoes were sold at prices lower than the prevailing market rates.
The products were sold as follows: Rice 5% Indien (25kg) at 9,000 FCFA, Rice 25% Thailand (25kg) at 8,500 FCFA, Rice 25% Birman (50kg) at 16,000 FCFA, and Tomatoes at 4,000 FCFA/carton.

Residents, particularly women, expressed satisfaction with the initiative, stating that it helped them stock up on essentials with ease.

Speaking to The Ultimate, the Divisional Delegate, Promise Chung Forkom said the main reason of the promotional sales is to fight against high cost of living, to bring relief to families in Tombel and environs.

Chung emphasized that the activity was in line with the Minister of Trade’s instructions to fight against the high cost of living. He announced that plans are underway to organize similar promotional sales activities in Bangem and Tombel in April 2026.

Reacting after buying rice and tomatoes at the sales point, Marion Senze, a local chocolate macnufacturer in Tombel appreciated the delegate for the vision of the promotional sales.

She said in the midst of challenges and difficulties, the promotional sales will help her buy more foodstuff for her family. “the delegation of trade should continue with this sales quarterly.” She added.

Epie Ernest Ekane said the promotional sales has brought relief to the suffering population. “We are facing a situation where life is almost unbearable to some people. Such promotional sales will restore hope to the hopeless.”
