Members of the Bakossi Secret Society, Behons, from villages along the Bangem-Nguti road, staged a protest march to the Senior Divisional Officer of Kupe Muanenguba, Nguia Beina Theophile, over the slow execution of the Bangem-Nguti road project. The protest took place on March 3, 2026, in Bangem, where the Behons marched from the Square to the SDO’s office.

Speaking at an emergency meeting convened by the SDO with stakeholders, Nhon Mejame Ekane from Babubok village, on behalf of his peers, lamented that construction work on the Bangem-Nguti road had completely stalled. The Behon stated that after the ‘Thank You’ rally on May 3, 2024, to thank President Paul Biya for the Bangem-Nguti road, their hopes were high as work had kicked off effectively.

“We are baffled that the construction work ended in Enyandong, and there are no signs of continuity,” he said. Nhon Mejame added that several projects had kicked off powerfully in the division but suddenly ended without execution. “We hope the Bangem-Nguti road is not one of those abandoned projects,” he said, pleading, “We are suffering, Mr. SDO. We pay FCFA 25,000 just to transport a bag of cocoa from Babubok to Enyandong, a very short distance. Our produce rots because we can’t transport it to the market. Please, let the road work continue.”

Responding, SDO Nguia told the Behons to calm down, as work would soon resume. He said FCFA 3 billion had been programmed for the road’s continuation in the 2026 Public Investment Projects for Kupe Muanenguba.

The Behons thanked the SDO and promised their full support for the road project.
