In a powerful display of unity and determination, women from Muambong Clan, Bangem Sub Division, Kupe Muanenguba Division gathered to commemorate International Women’s Day, calling for the establishment of a Women’s Empowerment Center to boost their economic independence and promote community development.

The women from seven villages of the clan were speaking in Muambong on March 8, 2026 on the occasion of the celebration of the International Women’s Day under the theme “Rights, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls.”

The celebration started with the colorful arrival of different women’s groups from across the Muambong clan highlighting the importance of women’s empowerment, justice, and community development.

Among them were the Muandon Women’s Meeting, Muantah Women’s Group, Nkang Women Muambong, and the AHII Women’s Group.

These groups represented women from seven villages within the clan, namely Muantah, Muandon, Ahi Nkang, Nhiung, Akid, Muedib, and Mesaka. Their participation reflected the unity and strong commitment of women in the area toward promoting development within their communities.

Speaking at the event, Menone Magdalene Nkumbe expressed gratitude to the women of the Muambong clan for their sacrifices and contributions to the well-being of their families and the development of their communities.

She commended their resilience and dedication, noting that women continue to play a vital role in community progress.

However, she emphasized that the major demand of the women of Muambong is the creation of a Women’s Empowerment Center in the clan, which would help women gain skills and opportunities for economic independence.

Representing the Divisional Delegate of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Enongene Charles Njabe called on the government and other stakeholders to intensify efforts in addressing all forms of gender-based violence against women.

Explaining the different components of the International Women’s Day theme, he stressed that no woman or girl should be left behind in the pursuit of equal rights and justice.

Njabe further emphasized the need for inclusive and fair justice systems that protect the rights and dignity of women and girls.

Njabe who also represented an NGO, encouraged women to report any form of violence or abuse to the organization for support and assistance. He further encouraged women to take advantage of the free vocational training programs offered by the NGO.

These trainings include skills in cake and pastry production, liquid soap making, yogurt production, and powder soap and detergent production, all aimed at improving women’s livelihoods and promoting financial independence.

The celebration featured a variety of entertaining and cultural activities including a march past by the women’s groups, choral singing, and traditional dance display.

The event also included the award of prizes to participants, adding excitement and recognition to the celebration.
