Nguti Council dominated the 2026 International Labour Day in Bangem as three of its workers swept all seven medals awarded on 1 May, with Bangem and Tombel councils recording no honours.

The Senior Divisional Officer for Kupe Muanenguba, Nguia Beina Theophile, decorated the Nguti trio at the ceremonial ground before mayors, heads of services, trade unions, and a cheering crowd, calling the medals “a public testimony that Cameroon does not forget its builders.”

Leading the medal table was Ndornyah Jacob Nhuate, Community Development Officer of Nguti Council, who received three medals — gold, silver gilt, and silver — the highest individual distinction of the day.

Wowoh Mary Enko, Chief of Service for Personnel and Administration and Civil Status Secretary, was decorated with two medals: silver gilt and silver.

Tabi Titus Bisong, the Municipal Treasurer, also took home silver gilt and silver. In total, Nguti Council claimed seven medals; Bangem and Tombel, none.

Recipients React

Reacting to the honour, Wowoh Mary said the recognition belonged to many. “I am deeply honored to receive this medal on Labour Day, 1 May 2026,” she said. “First, I want to thank the Mayor of Nguti Council and his executive board members, the government, and most especially the Divisional Delegate of Labour, Emmanuel Anapa Mugre, for recognizing the value of hard work and dedication.”

Wowoh dedicated the awards to fellow workers: “It reminds me that no work is done alone, so I dedicate this medal to all workers in Nguti and Cameroon as a whole who show up every day with commitment. May we continue to strive for excellence and serve with integrity.”

Ndornyah also said, “I feel deeply humbled and proud to receive gold, silver gilt, and silver medals. This recognition belongs to Nguti Council and to every worker who serves quietly without seeking praise.”

In his reaction, Bisong thanked God and the administration for the honour. “I dedicate these medals to my colleagues and to the people of Nguti who support us daily. We will keep giving our best for Nguti Municipality, Kupe Muanenguba, and for Cameroon.”

Handing over the medals, SDO Nguia Beina Theophile challenged the Division to emulate Nguti’s example.

SDO’s Congratulatory Message

“On this Labour Day, the Nation salutes you. These medals are not just metal. They are a symbol of our nation’s gratitude to those who build Cameroon with their hands, their ideas, and their sacrifice. To Wowoh Mary, Tabi Titus, and Ndornyah Jacob: you embody the spirit of service, discipline, and integrity we want in Kupe Muanenguba. Wear these medals with pride, and let them remind us all that dignity at work is the foundation of national progress.”

Divisional Delegate of Labour, Emmanuel Anapa Mugre, said selections were based on years of service, conduct, and impact. “These medals should spark healthy emulation across all subdivisions,” he said.

The clean sweep drew loud applause in Bangem and sparked celebration in Nguti.

The Secretary General of Nguti Council, Ebune Winslow Modika, represented his Mayor at the ceremony.
