His Royal Majesty Chief Makoge Isaac Mesumbe, traditional ruler of Muekan village, Nninong Clan, Bangem Sub Division, has died at 87, his family announced.
The First Deputy Mayor of Bangem Council, Enongenepie Manga, son of the late chief, said his father “took a glorious exit” in April 2026 after serving his community.
Born in 1939, Late Chief Mesumbe’s funeral rites begin with a wake on May 29, followed by removal of his remains from Bangem District Hospital mortuary, and burial in Muekan-Nninong on May 30, 2026.
In the meantime, the Divisional Officer for Bangem Sub Division, Dairou Saly described the late chief as “a custodian of peace and tradition whose counsel guided the administration on grassroots governance.” He extended condolences to the royal family and the people of Nninong, noting that “Bangem has lost a father figure whose wisdom bridged the chieftaincy and administration.”
The President of the Bangem Sub Divisional Chiefs Conference, Mesape Metuge Clevis, said the conference was “devastated by the glorious exit of a patriarch.” He added: “HRH Chief Mesumbe stood for unity among Bangem chiefs. He taught us that our thrones are for service, not status. His voice in our conference will be sorely missed, but his example will continue to guide us.”
