In an atmosphere of sorrow and remembrance, current and former workers of The Post Newspaper joined journalists to honour veteran Chris Mbunwe, who was laid to rest on April 25, 2026 in Bamenda.

The current and past workers of The Post, at home and abroad, made valuable financial contributions for the funeral ceremony of their colleague, who served The Post Newspaper for over 25 years.

On behalf of The Post Newspaper, Yaounde Bureau Chief, Yerima Kini Nsom paid tribute: “Chris Mbunwe was the soul of The Post newsroom for decades. He was a mentor, a newsroom general, and a stickler for facts. He taught many of us that journalism is not just a job, but a public trust. His pen was fearless, his heart was for the community, and his legacy is the generation of journalists he groomed. The Post family has lost a pillar, but his example will continue to guide us.”

Meanwhile Choves Loh, Senior Journalist and Publisher of The News Newspaper, on behalf of the Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalists, CAMASEJ, thanked mourners for their turnout, saying Mbunwe remained committed to his profession until his final days.

“For all his life, Chris was a journalist and he died after writing news.” He extended condolences from the media to the bereaved family.

Colleagues remembered Mbunwe as a disciplined and experienced professional who contributed greatly to the growth of English-speaking journalism in Cameroon.

In his homily at the wake on April 24, Fr. Ignatius Beriliy called on mourners to reflect on how they live their lives and to see Mbunwe’s passing as a reminder of life’s fragility and the need to live with purpose.

He urged mourners not to grieve without hope, reminding them of the Christian belief in the resurrection and eternal life.
